Hi Reddit!

We’re Yacht Club Games, an independent studio best known for Shovel Knight. We got our start on Kickstarter, grew that game into a series, and just launched [Mina the Hollower](http://minathehollower.com) \- our first big new original IP since Shovel Knight!

Mina took six years to make and has become the highest-rated game of the year, so we’re here to talk about the whole ride: building an indie studio, developing games, and everything that went into Mina’s design, art, music, bosses, difficulty, secrets, weapons, Sidearms, Trinkets, launch, marketing, and Kickstarter!

▲ 115 Considering "upgrading" from a 3080 10GB to a 5070 12GB, it would cost about a 100$ 95 💬

I'm wondering if its a good idea to get a 5070 instead of my 3080. After selling it used it would cost a 100-150$ to upgrade to the 5070.

Pros: 2GB vram, 10% performance, less power usage(it gets really hot during the summer) and all the new DLSS stuff.

My main question is if its worth the hassle? And is MFG, DLSS4.5(upscaling and ray reconst), pathtracing any good?(I have no experience with DLSS except turning it to quality in every game)

Mainly play story games at \[1440p 165hz\] like cyberpunk, witcher, GOW, Forza, Expedition 33

Also pc specs: 5800x3d, 3080, 32gb ddr4, 650w bronze psu

Any advice would be much appreciated :D

▲ 92 Computer Fighting for It's Life to Play WoW, other simple games.. 4070 TI. What to upgrade? 140 💬

Hi all! I'm making this post because pretty much everything is a bit slow.

If I load a game like WoW for example, the character screen loads in, then a few seconds later, the character starts to load in, etc.

This kind of behavior happens in pretty much every game, even running WoW on the lowest settings it is like that.

I'm not sure what exactly the problem is, maybe I have a CPU bottleneck or need more RAM? From what I know, I really shouldn't be having issues with a 4070 TI. When I look at task manager while WoW is running, it seems like there's not too much usage overall but it is still running terribly.

CPU at 30%
Memory at 50%
GPU at 16% usage and 30 degrees celsius

**GPU**: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 TI
**CPU**: AMD Ryzen 5 5600X 6-Core Processor
**RAM**: 32 GB ram (2x 16)

Curious what you would recommend doing in this situation. Thank you for any help you can provide me!

**I wanted to add another huge issue: the stuttering/lag seems to effect everything, so for example if i am playing WoW and then it lags, it even will cause the audio I am listening to to be stuttered/lag (for example music on Spotify)**

**EDIT: I downloaded HWiNFO and my CPU is idling at around 91 degrees. Safe to say this is the problem right? The fan is working, I can see it/hear it, but not sure what is causing this overrheating. What do I do here?**

u/pragomatic ▲ 240
"I would be checking for common PC slowdown issues; heat, malware, and a SSD that's near full. While WoW will have some pop-in due to a slower network connection, it sounds like there is a non-PC issue going on."

▲ 22 Is the 5800X3D Anniversary Edition worth it, or should I stick with my 3700X? 27 💬

Hey everyone,

I’m currently running a Ryzen 7 3700X on an MSI B550 Tomahawk with 32GB of DDR4 RAM, and I recently managed to get a good deal on an RTX 5070.

Because of that, I’m thinking about upgrading my CPU as well. I saw that the 5800X3D Anniversary Edition is supposed to go on sale, and I’m wondering if it would be a good upgrade for my system.

The main reason I’m considering it is that it would let me stay on AM4 and avoid moving to AM5. With current RAM prices, AM5 just doesn’t really feel worth it to me right now. Also, I’m based in Europe, so Micro Center bundles or US-only deals aren’t really an option for me.

Main use case is gaming. I’m mostly wondering whether the upgrade from a 3700X to a 5800X3D would make enough of a difference to justify the cost, or if I should just keep the 3700X for now.

Current specs:

Ryzen 7 3700X
MSI B550 Tomahawk
32GB DDR4 RAM
RTX 5070

u/No_Spare1827 ▲ 32
"well it is infact the best possible upgrade u could do for a gaming PC with those parts, and I'm gonna say yes, it will be expensive at launch unfortunately but I imagine that will help drive the used prices down. but yeah looking at all the current parts besides the 5500x3d and the 5700x that would be the best option for u, all depends if u think its worth it compared to whats available"

▲ 20 Sanity check before final purchase : 9070 XT & 7800X3D 31 💬

Hey,

Final check before pulling the trigger. Some parts are already in hand: GPU was bought in December and is currently running in my AM4 build, RAM arrived a few weeks ago during a sale, and the CPU showed up yesterday.

* **CPU**: AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D 4.2 GHz 8-Core Processor (Purchased For €183.00)
* **CPU Cooler:** Thermalright Phantom Spirit 120 SE ARGB 66.17 CFM CPU Cooler (Purchased For €38.00)
* **Motherboard:** Asus PRIME B650-PLUS WIFI ATX AM5 Motherboard (€132.82)
* **Memory:** Corsair Vengeance 16 GB (1 x 16 GB) DDR5-6000 CL36 Memory (Purchased For €175.00. Second stick will be added eventually)
* **Storage:** Samsung 850 Evo 1 TB 2.5" Solid State Drive (From previous build, will be replaced by NVME eventually)
* **Video Card:** XFX Mercury OC RGB Radeon RX 9070 XT 16 GB Video Card (Purchased For €706.00)
* **Case:** Montech KING 95 PRO ATX Mid Tower Case (€133.80 @ Alternate)
* **Power Supply:** MSI MAG A850GL PCIE5 850 W 80+ Gold Certified Fully Modular ATX Power Supply (€76.00)
* **Case Fan:** Montech AX120 59 CFM 120 mm Fan (€13.00) x3
* **Monitor:** Dell G2724D 27.0" 2560 x 1440 165 Hz Monitor (Purchased For €140.00)

**A few notes:**

* **RAM:** I know, single stick, no dual channel. I'll grab a second identical one once I sell a kidney and prices come back down (CL30 kits are currently way overpriced). How bad is single channel in the meantime?
* **Storage:** Both SSDs are carry-overs from a previous build. Everything lives in the cloud, so if they die I'll just pick up a new NVMe. Waiting for prices to drop first.
* **Case:** Went with the Montech KING 95 PRO. The PC will sit on my desk to the right. My main criteria: tempered glass, power button at the bottom of the front panel (it's on a desk, not the floor), and front USB-A + USB-C. Bonus: it comes with 6 ARGB fans pre-installed.
* **Motherboard:** Honestly the component I understand the least. I followed advice and picked something that ticks all the boxes without unnecessary extras. Did i miss something ?
* **Fans:** I am adding 3 Montech AX120 59 CFM 120 mm Fan for the top panel. AX120 are the correct ones, right ? I believe I will have clearance for the Thermalright Phantom Spirit 120 SE ARGB.

Cheers !

▲ 19 I upgraded my PC and somehow the chair is now the worst part of the setup 19 💬

I spent the last few months slowly upgrading my PC setup. Better monitor, better keyboard, cleaner desk, decent headphones, and I finally fixed most of the cable mess. Everything feels better now except the actual thing I sit on. I am still using an old gaming chair that looked cool when I bought it, but after a few hours it feels awful. The seat is hard, the sides push my shoulders forward, and by the end of a long session my lower back feels stiff. I used to think a chair was just a chair, but now it feels like the one part of the setup I ignored for too long. Now I am starting to think a proper office chair might matter more than half the accessories people obsess over. A better mousepad is nice, but it does not help much if your back is done after two hours. Funny how easy it is to spend money on parts that improve performance, then sit in something that makes the whole setup uncomfortable.
